Claire Taylor Design is a full-service interior design studio based in Berkeley, creating warm, timeless and artistic interiors throughout Berkeley and the East Bay. My approach begins with two things: you and the bones of your space. I want to understand how you live, what you love and, most importantly, how you want to feel in your space.

From there, I bring together architecture, colour, materials, furnishings and art to create an environment that feels considered, inviting and uniquely yours.

I work on boutique local businesses and residential remodels, renovations and individual rooms, collaborating with architects, contractors, cabinet makers, artists and a trusted network of trades and suppliers to bring each project together.

Kitchens & Bathrooms

Kitchens and bathrooms are often the most complex spaces in a home - and some of the most rewarding to design.

I consider the layout, proportions and practical requirements alongside cabinetry, work surfaces, tile, lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware and colour.

My aim is to create rooms that work beautifully for everyday life while feeling naturally connected to the character of your home.

Space Planning & Renovation

Good design begins with a good plan.

I look carefully at how a space is used, how rooms relate to one another and how every inch can work harder for you. Scaled drawings and 3D renderings allow us to explore ideas and make informed decisions before construction begins.

For renovation projects, I collaborate closely with architects, contractors and other members of your team to help ensure that the design is carried through from concept to completion.

Materials, Color & Finishes

I love the process of bringing materials together.

Natural stone, timber, tile, painted cabinetry, metal, fabrics, wallpaper and carefully chosen colors all contribute to the feeling of a room. I look for the right balance of texture, pattern and color rather than following trends for their own sake.

The result is an interior with warmth, depth and personality — one that feels collected rather than overly designed.

Furniture, Art & Styling

The final layers are what make a space feel like home.

I source furniture, lighting, rugs, fabrics and accessories that complement the architecture and the way you live. Where appropriate, I can also design bespoke furniture and millwork.

Art is an important part of my approach, too. I enjoy finding the right relationship between artwork, furnishings and architecture and using those elements to give a room its own personality.

A Collaborative Process

I listen carefully to what my clients want, offer clear guidance when decisions become overwhelming and work with a trusted group of professionals to keep the project moving.

My role is both creative and practical - helping you make confident design decisions while keeping all of the individual elements of a project working together.

I'm also very transparent about how I charge for services, sharing an up to date live timesheet so that you can keep a track of design hours and what I'm working on at a glance.

Berkeley & East Bay Interior Design

Based in Berkeley, I work with businesses and homeowners throughout the East Bay, including the Berkeley Hills, Oakland, Albany, Alameda, Orinda and Lafayette, as well as selected projects in San Francisco and beyond.

I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of homes and architectural styles across the area. Each project is different, and I believe the design should respond to the character of the house as much as it does to the people who live there.
